From RITA award-winning author Susan May Warren comes a new action romance. A prequel to the Montana Fire Summer of Fire trilogy.

An action-heroine movie star looking for a place to hide finds trouble in the arms of a real-life hero...

MacKenzie Grace wants more than her wanna-be action-heroine role on the big screen. But when she finds herself in the sights of a stalker, her real life drama takes on epic movie proportions. Including her very own, real-life action hero...

Former Green Beret Luke Alexander just wants to forget his past and mind his own business in the woods of east Tennessee. And his park ranger job seems the solution. Until a diva movie star walks into his world looking for someplace to hide.

But the Cherokee forest isn’t big enough for the both of them, not if you include the trouble MacKenzie has dragged along behind her. And soon she’s stirring up Luke’s own murky past—one out for revenge. Which trouble will find them first? Is it even possible to outrun your past and start over? Luke and MacKenzie are about to find out…

This prequel to the Montana Fire Series includes an extended excerpt from Book 1 WHERE THERE’S SMOKE

The story was just "okay," nothing special, but still an enjoyable read. What most upset me is calling this a prequel to the Montana Fire series. VERY misleading as it has absolutely nothing to do with that series other than a brief mention that the hero spent some time with the smokejumper team in Montana. This story takes place in Tennessee and is completely unrelated. I would not have purchased it if I had known none of the characters would be the same, much less the premise of the story. Shame on the powers that be for misleading loyal readers.

You Don't Have to Be a Star inspirational romantic suspense Montana Fire edition by Susan May Warren Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

Loved it! Your books are feel good books. It's nice to lose yourself in them. Can't wait to read your other books. I have lived in Montana for 37 years and you have the characters in your books like some of the people I have enjoyed knowing and call friends.
Thank you a again for letting me escape into your books.
This was a delightful book with fun parts, intensive parts, and all the romance seeded to make this a great book to start a series. I loved the characters and the setting was ideal.
As usual, Susan has kept me involved throughout the story. Seeing the hero reconnect with God and his family. There was definitely enough mystery and it was interesting to see the resolution.
You can't go wrong choosing any Susan May Warren story. I've read four now, and everything about the mysteries, the romances and the characters keeps me reading far too long into the night. It's wonderful, too, to feel refreshed as well as satisfied by the credit she gives to God for her characters' happy endings.
MacKenzie Grace is a mega-star on the big screen. Nearly killed when a stalker invades her private space, she retreats to the hills of Tennessee to escape continued threats on her life, hoping that being incognito for a few weeks will give her peace of mind. Never in her wildest dreams did she anticipate meeting someone like Luke Alexander.

Former Special Ops soldier Luke Alexander is living a life of "retreat" of a different nature, and mostly regret. When MacKenzie Grace literally blows in to his park ranger office looking for a secure hideaway, Luke's tightly wound world begins to spiral out of his control. Their dangerous pasts just might find a way to intersect.

Can this real- life hero and movie-made hero find a way to start over? Susan May Warren has hit a proverbial home run with this prequel to her upcoming "Montana Fire Series"!
You Don't Have to Be a Star by Susan May Warren -- Love this inspirational romantic story! This author has done it again! I love the stories that she weaves while also imparting Christian character, principles and God's Truths. Her characters are full of life with the same problems that many of us face, in one area or another of our lives. Her characters are complex and the story line, itself, grabs your attention from the beginning and holds it until the last page is read. Her stories are not preachy but clearly demonstrate the love of God to each reader. Her characters do not lead perfect lives but learn to rely upon the Lord. I love her books and always find a message from God to me within its pages (no not verbal). The very first book of hers that I read was, "Where There's Smoke," which originally started her Montana Fire Series. I have read almost everyone of her books and love them all.
Once again, needs to allow half stars, because this is about a 3.6 rating. The basic plot is built on some story tropes we all know well - the movie star who's being stalked and has to hide out in the country, the military veteran with PTSD, that kind of thing. To that end, Mackenzie and Luke, our two main characters, do some cliché things I could've lived without. For instance, Mackenzie walks into Luke's ranger station expecting to find access to fancy coffees and butterscotch scones. I hate it when female characters do that kind of thing. It's like, open your eyes, sweetie. You're in the backwoods of Tennessee (or wherever the story is set). You're not going to find a Starbucks or a restaurant with a vegetarian special for at least 45 miles.

With that being said, Susan May Warren has rarely disappointed me in the past and she didn't this time. Well, except for the clichés and the fact that the edition had some editing issues. Once again, she creates two characters who feel like real people. Another reviewer has said Susie "lays bare her characters' human frailties," and that's what I love about Mackenzie and Luke. They might be successful and even lauded as heroes, but they are flawed and multifaceted humans. I especially loved the part where Mackenzie delves into her backstory; it gave me a lot of sympathy for her and made me wish Susie had more time to spend on the contrast between her North Carolina life and Hollywood life.

Some of the secondary characters are pretty good too, especially Ruthann, Trevor, and William, Luke's dad. Props to Susie for creating a character with Alzheimer's who displays medically correct symptoms but still has an influence on characters' actions. I've said before that I hate it when this type of character becomes the focal point of a tearjerker story, or just sits and drools. William does neither. In him, Susie captures the difficulty of living in a place where lucid moments are few, but also manages to give him a real presence.

The suspense element, even for a novella, was a little weak, although the climactic scene between Luke, Kenzie, and an unexpected killer was written pretty well. Basically, the stalker arc seemed to resolve too quickly. Also, the relational arc between Luke and Kenzie seemed rushed; one minute they want to be together, the next they don't, and the next they do. I think Susie tried to cram a novel plot into a novella, and some of it didn't work. However, what did work is pretty darn good, so I'd say give it a read if you're curious.
The story was just "okay," nothing special, but still an enjoyable read. What most upset me is calling this a prequel to the Montana Fire series. VERY misleading as it has absolutely nothing to do with that series other than a brief mention that the hero spent some time with the smokejumper team in Montana.
